Featuring… Philbrick’s Fresh Market!

Tom's of Maine interviews Phil Philbrick

What is your title at Philbrick's Fresh Market?

Managing member / founder.

Tell us about the Fresh Market. Where are you located? What kinds of goods do you carry?

Two locations. The original at 775 Lafayette Road, Portsmouth and new at 69 Lafayette Road, North Hampton (New Hampshire). In our new store in North Hampton we recycled an empty building into a new business with 30 new jobs. We are a full basket for the healthy gourmet, meaning that we have a complete offering, focused on organic, local, specialty, and quality.

What kinds of goodness initiatives does your store participate in on a regular basis?

We participate and give back in a variety of ways, focus on charities that are local and benefit unfortunate children. Support Families First in Portsmouth, and many smaller organizations. Love to provide healthy foods for community events such as races and events. Sent our van as a support vehicle for the local pan mass team, for example.

What has Philbrick's done to reduce the weight of trash removed?

A significant portion of the scraps and trimmings (there are a lot!) from produce go to several nearby farms for a healthy supplemental feed for pigs and chickens. Cardboard is baled and reused; all remaining trash from North Hampton goes to generate electricity at a nearby plant.

What is your favorite Tom's of Maine product?

Cinnamon Clove Whole Care toothpaste!
