Welcome to the brand new Tom’s of Maine blog, let’s talk.

Connecting has always been important at Tom’s of Maine. What started with Kate Cheney Chappell’s commitment to respond to consumers through hand written letters grew into company-wide discussions at our Mission Days. Today we keep this tradition alive by beginning our meetings with Connect Exercises. Whether employees are answering fun questions like ‘what is your favorite song” or sharing a fond memory of a time they saw something that was “Wicked Fresh”, these connects allow us to first gather as friends before jumping into the business at hand. Even at our busiest, the time spent learning more about what we each value and enjoy, is time well spent. With Kate as our inspiration, we are looking forward to sharing these moments and ideas with you! We will not only write about our shared values like a commitment to no animal testing and desire to give back in our communities, but we are excited to learn more about what is truly important to you! Technology may have changed from Kate’s first hand written letter, but our commitment to you remains...let’s talk!

Today's newspaper has a full page ad for Tom's of Maine in with the coupons, and I think it is misleading. It states that you share every ingredient on your website, yet your website still has no list of ingredients in the fragrance in your products. It says to contact you to ask if a specific ingredient is in the product and you will tell us if the product contains that particular ingredient. I don't think this is sharing every ingredient in the products. Please return to making more fragrance free products that sensitive people can use, there are plenty of scented products on the market.

For several years I used Tom's of Maine Shaving cream. An excellent product. I was distressed when it was discontinued. I actually looked forward to shaving each morning because of the way it made my face feel. Will it ever return???

I posted a comment to your blog a couple of months ago & I am appauled that you never posted it!? It was regarding the horrible experience that i had with your "natural" apricot deodorant! It severely burned my underarms & I had a rash!!! I then realized afterwards that your "natural" deodorant had propylene glycol(poison!)as one of the listed ingredients in it! Now will this be posted or will Toms of Maine selectively leave this blog out too!? If you strongly back up & believe in your product then post this comment. Thank you

Are you going to bring back your shaving products? They were great, and it is hard to find a good substitute.

I've seen Tom's around for years, but never found a reason to change from what I was using. Getting more health aware over the years has brought to my attention the poisons in the products we put in our bodies, like TRICLOSAN in my toothpaste. So I decided to try a better toothpaste like Tom's. But I have to say I am very disappointed today when I looked for a minty paste and only found one of your products on the shelf that didn't have flouride in it. FLOURIDE is extremely toxic, and I can't believe what I saw. I thought I found a product I could grab off the shelf without having to read the LABEL. I tried your fennel flavor, it was a nice change, but we prefer the fresh tast of mint. So what are you going to do about removing the poison?

I purchased two different kinds of deodorant, an apricot aluminum-free deodorant stick and a citrus zest roll-on. I was very exicited to try these two "natural" products. I was so excited I did not save my receipt. That turned out to be a mistake. I have never had any deodorant cause me to have an allergic reaction like I did, and they did not keep me from having an odor. I am really surprised. First, the products were supposed to be natural, and secondly they were not cheap. Both of these products cost me in excess of $11.00. If there is anyway I can return these products to you for a refund, please let me know how. Thank you, Yvonne

I would really like to know why Tom's "Natural" Toothpaste contains the very "Unnatural" ingredient Sodium Lauryl Sulfate? I concentrated on getting a toothpaste that did not contain fluoride and missed the Sodium Lauryl Sulfate in it.

Just a quick note on tom's deodorant ~ love it! Since going through chemo & radiation (triple negative breast cancer) 2 1/2 yrs ago, I've noticed the auxillary tissue is much different in how it reacts to antiperspirents. I use to switch from deodorants in the winter to antiperspirants in the summer, but no more. My skin is much happier with your deodorant all year long! Living in AZ does mean some extra hot days but your product does a wonderful job in helping me stay 'fresh' ! Thank you so much. hugs cher

It would be nice if there was more information on your products on the website. Maybe even a comparison of the different mouthwashes. I find it hard to find different flavors and some are not as good as others. Thanks, Tom

You ruined Tom's mouthwash for me by adding that terrible sweetener, making it totally unpalatable to me. Please, at least still offer your former mouthwash (without sweetener) for sale! And please don't add sweeteners to your toothpaste. Thanks!

Apricot "Aluminum free" deodorant stick said...

I had purchased a 3 pack of the natural apricot aluminum free deodorant sticks & I was more than disappointed when after using: my underarms burned so badly, they had hurt for hours afterwards. (I have never had this reaction from any deodorant I've ever used in the past.)When I looked at the ingredients that were in the deodorant I read that "propylene glycol" is listed as the #1 ingredient. I have learned that propylene glycol is actually a very strong skin irritant & can also cause liver abnormalities & kidney damage. Propylene glycol can also contribute to body tissues being more vulnerable to carcinogens. I was quite shocked to read that Tom's of Maine would even have propylene glycol in their items & especially listed as the first ingredient! Again: I am disappointed in this product completely & I unfortunately already paid for & have opened up a "3 pack" only to discover that I wasted my money on a product I thought that I could trust. My underarms were in so much pain after using this product as well as they were sore & red for hours afterwards! I do not recommend that anyone use this product as it is not safe!

I love your Tom's scent free deordorant but,by the time I get to about the last inch of the product I cannot get the stick to stay in the case. I get very frustrated as there is still plenty of product and it keeps falling on the floor. This is my first time to contact you but, I have used your products for years. Help, what can be done? Thoughtfully yours, Meredith

What has become of Natual Tartar Control Peppermint mouthwash? Now we find Wicked fresh peppermint wave, which is too sweet, containing sorbital & xylitol, and which leaves a film of "oil-like" something in the mouth. Please, where can we find the Natural Peppermint? We are zip code 21701 or 21502. Thank you so very much.

My kids (and I) love your children's toothpaste, but I have to say that the cap is extremely tough to open! More than once I've broken a nail, or my kids have scraped their hands, trying to open the lid. Once the tube has been used once, it sticks something terrible... so if there can be a more easy-open cap designed, then your product will be perfect both inside AND out! Thank you!

I am furious to find out this a.m. ( May 3) that Tom's is owned by Colgate Palmalive!!! A comapny that STILL does animal testing! This was admitted to me by a representative of Colgate on the phone this a.m. I have bought Tom's specifically because I believed they were a small company that did NOT do animal testing.

Hi, I am a new user of your Natural Pepperment Antiplaque tartar control tooth paste. I love it, and it has helped make me healthier. As a doctor I knew a little about inadequate thyroid hormone production (Hypothyroid). I learned a lot more about the condition when I was diagnosed with low thyroid. I took Armour thyroid tablets as a replacement to relieve symptoms of a thick feeling throat, dry skin, low energy and body temperature, weight gain and horseness in my vocal chords. The medication made me very ill. I did some research, and what a thyroid needs to be healthy is IODINE every day. As a chemist I know that Iodine, Fluorine, and Bromine are the Halides and are very similar. More research informed me that Fluorine (Fluoride) blocks the thyroid from getting its needed Iodine, starving the gland of the critical element it needs for proper function. I was using a flourided toothpaste all of my life. No wonder my thyroid was starving. As a trial, I began using your non fluoridated paste, increasing my iodine intake daily, stopping the med that made me ill feeling, and I am back to feeling normal again. More research showed that one doctor believes some 60% of the population has low thyroid production and fully 35 illnesses form as a result of inadequate thyroid production: it is no wonder since most people use fluoride toothpaste and unknowingly are starving their thyroid gland from properly functioning. Ever since this good result, I have been recommending your non fluoridated products to my patients. May you be happy and prosper, and thanks for what you do. Dr Wes Wheadon, Los Angeles, CA

I am looking to find a natural alternative to Propylene Glycol to make diffuser oil. I came to this site because Toms of Maine came up on a search for Propylene Glycol free products. I love Toms of Maines products, I use the toothpaste, mouthwash and deodorant, and I am curious to see how they handle their PR. I hope to get and answer from one green company to another. Please share some eco knowledge with me. Yours Truly, Deirdre :) P.S. Do you all have some All Natural Shampoo?

I love your natural deoderant, especially the lavender smell, but I don't understand why it leaves my underarm red and a little itchy. Is it the Zinc in it? Just wondering, and if it is could you make a lavender one without the zinc.

How is the ingredients in your deodorant more efficent then other leading brands? I pick up your unscented deodorant in the store. I hope to find life changing results. Friends and family has been tellng me, for years, that I have an unpleasant odor smell. I thought maybe i just need to shower more. Months later i still get compliants. So i reseach it. I found out that its best to use unscented deodorant and anitbacterial soap, along with vinegar, and tomato juice. lol I just may be allerigic or just have a bad reaction to the artifical brands out there. So again I hope to find outstanding results from your product. Something has to elimnate my bad odor smell.
