Michael Stewart documented his involvement in preserving the Lobos Creek watershed
Congratulations to Michael Stewart, winner of our 'River Stories' video contest. In his winning video featured above, Michael documents his ongoing efforts to preserve Lobos creek in the Presidio in San Francisco. For Michael, his dedication to the protection and enjoyment of the Pacific Ocean motivated him to clean Lobos Creek, the last ecologically intact, free-flowing year-round creek in San Francisco and the Presidio's source of everyday water. Lobos Creek also provided the backdrop to photographer Ansel Adams' childhood, inspiring his love for the natural world. Michael is also an active volunteer with the Surfrider Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of our world's oceans, waves and beaches. After his bike and public transportation, Michael is finding it easier to get to Lobos Creek, the Pacific Ocean and everywhere in between in his environmentally friendly new car, the top prize in our River Stories contest.
Michael's passion for watershed restoration is fueled by his belief that if each of us take care of the places we love — be it a beach, river or reflecting pool — the entire community benefits.
That makes sense to us as well. Keep up the great work, Michael!
