(2008)
Lisa Bilisch, RDH, MS, led a team of thirteen Eastern
Washington University student dental hygienists to a Latino community in Wenatchee, Washington last month. Under the guidance of Asst. Professor Bilisch, the group provided almost
50 children, ranging in age from 1 to 18 years old, with oral screenings, fluoride varnish, and
natural oral care products from Tom’s of Maine.
Approximately 60 volunteer hours provided almost $1500 worth of services to members of this small community. Students translated all oral hygiene instruction into Spanish, which included Tom’s of Maine literature and materials that were provided for the project by Wendy St. Cyr, RDHBS,
and Tom's of Maine's West Coast Professional Advocate. The volunteers drove over 350 miles in one day to offer access to oral health care and connect with this special community.
