INGREDIENTS

SODIUM COCOATE

Sodium cocoate is sodium salt, which is naturally derived from the fatty acids in coconut oil.

WHAT DOES IT DO?

Sodium cocoate is a surfactant meant to help cleanse skin, and it’s a very common ingredient in making soap.

HOW IS IT MADE?

Our Stewardship Model guides us to select ingredients which have been processed in a manner that supports our philosophy of human and environmental health.

Sodium cocoate involves combining the fatty acids found in coconut oil with sodium hydroxide, a process that creates the ingredient sodium cocoate.

WHAT ARE THE ALTERNATIVES?

There are petroleum-based or synthetic alternatives, but these do not meet the standards of our Stewardship model for natural, responsible and sustainable.

IS THIS THE RIGHT OPTION FOR ME?

Sodium cocoate is Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Tom’s of Maine recognizes that no two people are alike, and even with naturally derived ingredients, some individuals may develop an allergic reaction that is unique to them.
