Cymbopogon schoenanthus (Organic Lemongrass Oil)

What is it?

Lemongrass is a perennial grass native to tropical Asia. The specific species of lemongrass used in our products is Cymbopogon schoenanthus, commonly known as West Indian Lemongrass, Madagascar Lemongrass or Guatemala Lemongrass. A common ingredient in Thai and Indian cuisine, lemongrass is widely used in a variety of foods, beverages, candy, baked goods, and chewing gum. Aromatic lemongrass oil is also used as a fragrance component in many soaps and detergents.

What does it do?

Lemongrass is widely thought to have analgesic (pain relieving), antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties. It gives our gentle deodorants and our deodorant bar soaps their deodorizing benefits. We also use it for its fresh, tangy scent.

What are the risks?

Cymbopogon schoenanthus has no known toxicity or carcinogenicity. It has a long history of safe use and is Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) by the US Food & Drug Administration. Although our botanical ingredients are pure and natural, that is no guarantee against the potential for allergic reaction. Virtually any botanical ingredient has the potential to be a natural allergen or irritant to a particular set of individuals. As with any product, be sure to discontinue use if you experience a rash or other signs that the product may not be appropriate for your individual body chemistry.
