Salvia officinalis (sage) extract
What is it?Sage is a small, shrubby perennial best known as the complex, earthy seasoning added to many soup and poultry dishes. There are many species of sage, the type we use is Salvia officinalis, sometimes called "true sage." In addition to its culinary value, sage has a long history of folk usage to treat various ailments and burning sage is an ages-old ritual of purification. Its genus name, Salvia, ("to save" in Latin) is indicative of its rich medicinal tradition.
What does it do?Sage's long folk history as a natural medicinal is well-supported by scientific demonstration of its antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. It is combined with lemongrass oil to give our deodorant bar soaps their deodorizing benefits.
What are the risks?Salvia officinalis has no known toxicity or carcinogenicity. Although our botanical ingredients are pure and natural, that is no guarantee against the potential for allergic reaction. Virtually any botanical ingredient has the potential to be a natural allergen or irritant to a particular set of individuals.
