What is it?Sorbitol is a naturally occurring ingredient found in many edible fruits and berries, corn, even seaweed. The sorbitol we use is sourced from corn.
What does it do?Sorbitol has many uses in consumer products due to its superior ability to retain moisture. We use it in our glycerin products because of its outstanding moisturizing properties. Sorbitol also provides clarity and translucency to our glycerin bar soaps and makes our gel toothpastes transparent.
What are the alternatives?Glycerin and propylene glycol are the most commonly used alternatives. We do not use alcohol in our products, and prefer to use ingredients sourced from plants to moisten our toothpaste and provide clarity to our soaps.
What are the risks?Sorbitol has been used safely in both skin care and oral care products for almost 100 years. It is listed by the US Food and Drug Administration as an ingredient that is Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS).
