  The watershed protection movement is growing – from just a few hundred groups a decade ago to over 6,000 organizations today. All across America, more people than ever before are actively involved in efforts to understand, protect, and restore their local rivers, streams, lakes, wetlands, and estuaries. They monitor their local waters, determine conditions and trends, identify problems and their sources, and develop effective and creative ways to solve existing problems and prevent new ones. River Network's job is to help them succeed. River Network's mission is to help people understand, protect, and restore rivers and their watersheds by supporting grassroots conservation groups. Founded in 1988 with the conviction that the solutions to river degradation, like the problems, are primarily local, River Network provides organizational, technical, and networking assistance to people working for watershed protection at the local, state, and regional levels and provides their conservation partners with information, training, consultation, grants, referrals to other service organizations, and networking opportunities, including the annual National River Rally.
