What is it?

Coco-glucoside is a mild vegetable-based surfactant (foaming ingredient) derived from coconut or sustainably sourced palm kernel oil and glucose from corn or wheat. It is recognized as a natural ingredient by the Natural Product Association and certified by Ecocert.

What does it do?

Coco-glucoside is a mild and gentle natural cleansing agents and it ideal for skin cleansing products.

How is it made?

Our Stewardship Model guides us to select ingredients which have been processed in a manner that supports our philosophy of human and environmental health.

Our Coco-glucoside is derived from renewable raw materials and produced by a chemical reaction between glucose (sugar) from corn or wheat and coconut or palm oil, with water for dilution.

What are the alternatives?

Decyl glucoside is a natural, plant-derived alternative to coco-glucoside, and is also used in our skin cleansing products.  There are many synthetic cleansers and surfactants traditionally used in personal care products that would not meet our Stewardship requirements.

Is this the right option for me?

Coco-glucoside is a U.S. EPA Safer Choice chemical, which means it’s safe for human health and the environment.

Tom’s of Maine recognizes that no two people are alike, and even with naturally derived ingredients, some individuals may develop an allergic reaction that is unique to them. As with any product, be sure to discontinue use if you experience discomfort or other indications that the product may not be appropriate for your individual body chemistry.
