Other materials that can be used for this purpose include synthetic waxes, petroleum waxes, silicones and other modified oils, but the synthetic alternatives do not meet our Stewardship Model standards for natural, responsible and sustainable.

Soybean oil has a long history of safe use in personal care products. It is also permitted for direct addition to food by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
