At-Home Spa Night Ideas and Recipes for a Relaxing Evening

The shift has happened. I now look forward to nights in more than nights out, especially when they involve sipping wine, a hot bath, and indulging on a new book. Do you think I’m crazy? Plan an at-home spa night ASAP and indulge in a little alone time, something none of us do enough of with our hectic, fast-paced lifestyles, and then see how you feel.

Relaxation is a critical part of stress management, according to the Mayo Clinic. Taking time for yourself can help slow your heart rate, improve digestion, reduce fatigue, and boost confidence too! When relaxation is combined with thinking positively, exercising, managing your time well, eating healthy, and surrounding yourself with supportive friends and family, you’ll get the most benefit from your “me time.”


So, let’s set the scene. Turn on some relaxing music, light a few candles, pour a glass of something delicious, and put these natural spa recipes and ideas to good use. Here’s how.

Upcycled Veggie Face Mask

If you follow the Good Matters blog often, you’ve probably read about me turning produce waste from my juicer into a face mask. It works wonderfully! The moist vegetable and fruit pulp are packed with vitamins and chilled juices that are soothing on my face. I love that it can help reduce some of the itchiness and warmth I experience from eczema.

Basic Bath Bomb

I always swoon when I see those fizzy, colorful boutique store bath bombs, but I wonder about the ingredients. So, I’ve read a few labels and decided to experiment with mixing up a few of my own soothing goodies in the tub, without the artificial fragrances or dyes.

Here’s my go-to bath indulgence:

  • 1 cup Epsom salts
  • ½ cup baking soda
  • ½ cup oat flour (pulverized dry oatmeal)
  • A few drops of chamomile or lavender essential oil

Do you need a color? A few flower petals or dried rose buds will do the trick! I add everything to the bath as the water fills, give it a good mix with my foot, then get in and soak for at least 20 minutes.

Simple Skin Moisturizer

During the changes in season, my skin is always ready for extra TLC. I like to hydrate my skin after a bath by using pure coconut oil with a few drops of essential oil for natural fragrance. I usually turn to rose or lavender if I’m trying to unwind and relax.

Coconut oil gets creamy at room temperature, making it as simple to apply as a common skin lotion, without all the extra ingredients. After the oil absorbs, it leaves my skin soft and smooth. As a bonus, it’s great for your hair, too!
