Giving for Goodness

Sharing our time and profits to help support healthy communities.

We love hearing from people who are working to make a positive difference in their communities. And we think we should do our part too!  That’s why we’re committed to dedicating a portion of our time, money and products to doing good.

  • Our employees are encouraged to use 5% (12 full days a year) of their paid time volunteering for causes they’re passionate about. As a result, they contribute hundreds of hours each year helping at animal shelters and schools, repairing trails and removing invasive species, and coaching kids teams. We think this helps keep our community strong and makes Tom’s of Maine a better place to work.

  • We give 10% of our profits each year to national non-profits  and community based efforts in Maine. These organizations are the experts in their fields and we’re honored to partner with them. Our current focus is primarily on organizations committed to health, education and the environment, with additional emphasis on organizations supporting or engaging kids in these areas. A portion of annual donations is also set aside to respond to disasters, we give product and money to organizations based in the affected communities that are committed to long-term recovery.

We recently supported The Nature Conservancy in their efforts to protect and restore freshwater resources in the U.S. Our support was directed towards projects like watershed conservation and dam removal.

We also support our local chapter of the United Way to improve the financial stability of children, youth, families and seniors in York County, Maine. Recently, we supported Middle and High School programs which connect students to volunteer and service-learning programs (similar to our 5% volunteer benefit) and connecting businesses with local nonprofits to match specific supply needs with demand.

  • We regularly donate our products to non-profit clearing houses near our four (4) distribution centers in Maine, New Jersey, California and Georgia. These partners are experts in distributing food and personal care products to thousands of agencies who are on the ground in communities helping people where and when it's needed most.

  • In recent years we’ve focused our support on a few national nonprofits and local (Maine-based) organizations. Availability of additional funds is limited and thus is by invitation only.
