Make a Difference in Your Hometown and for Kids in Detroit Right from Your Laptop, Phone or Even at Work with the Click of a Mouse
KENNEBUNK, Maine, September 2, 2014 – Will you be a force for good this week? Tom’s of Maine is inviting the public to make a difference on Sept. 4 by tapping into technology during its social media-powered “Day of Good,” part of the company’s annual 50 States for Good program, which invests in people and the planet across the nation. Designed to make it easy to bring meaningful goodness where it’s needed, the day will include virtual ways to give back to grassroots causes in any community or make an immediate impact in Detroit to help revitalize a distressed park along the city’s historic Eight Mile Road. Twitter parties, including one hosted by socially conscious actress and advocate AnnaSophia Robb, as well as product giveaways and trivia round out the day-long celebration of simple acts of goodness. Visit www.tomsofmaine.com/news to make an impact today!
On September 4th and throughout the month, use the hashtag #50StatesforGood and get involved in any of the following ways:
MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR KIDS AND FAMILIES IN DETROIT
Join a socially-powered project that brings goodness to kids and families in Detroit. With a $25,000 donation to nonprofit Eight Mile Boulevard Association and with consumer participation online, Tom’s of Maine will renovate distressed Knudsen Park near historic Eight Mile Road. Tom’s of Maine is asking the public to root for change and show nationwide support for Detroit with a simple social action to help decide what new items go into the park, such as a picnic area, benches, a play car, a swing set, public art or basketball court updates. Make your click count at www.tomsofmaine.com/good-matters and follow our progress at Twitter.com/TomsofMaine and Facebook.com/TomsofMaine for regular updates.
"Our partnership with Tom's of Maine and the community embodies the way we pursue progress through collaboration,” said Jordan Twardy, Eight Mile Boulevard Association executive director. “Together, we’ve attracted new interest, energy and commitment to revitalize and preserve this highly symbolic Detroit park. We are proud to join with Tom's and breathe new life into a space where Detroiters of all ages can gather with pride."
BRING YOUR FAVORITE NONPROFIT $10,000
Want to help a local nonprofit but strapped for time or resources? 50 States for Good celebrates the many small nonprofits and passionate community members who see local needs and jump into action. Now through September 30, 2014 anyone can say “thank you” by nominating a favorite nonprofit at www.50StatesforGood.com via a short essay. One nonprofit in every state and Washington DC will be recognized and rewarded with a collective pool of $510,000 in funding available. This year’s 51 winners – to be awarded $10,000 each – will be selected by an independent judging panel.
CHAT #50STATESFORGOOD WITH ANNASOPHIA ROBB
Socially conscious actress and advocate AnnaSophia Robb, a 2014 50 States for Good judge, will join Tom’s of Maine on Sept. 4, the Day of Good, at 8:00 p.m. EST for a Twitter party. She will take live questions, share how she finds causes to get involved in and ask others to share inspiring ways they like to give back. Participants should use the hashtag #50StatesforGood to follow along and join the conversation.
“I am thrilled to be a part of the 50 States for Good program, working with Tom’s of Maine to support the amazing grassroots nonprofit work happening around the country,” said program judge AnnaSophia Robb. “I encourage everyone to nominate a local organization – it only takes a few minutes but it can have a major impact on a community or expand a much needed program.”
Over the past five years, Tom’s of Maine has funded 50 States for Good projects that have built playgrounds, supported community gardens, maintained sustainable nature trails, provided shelter and food for the homeless and cared for animals, among many other initiatives.
