Tom’s of Maine the only Natural, Alcohol-Free Mouthwash to earn the ADA Seal of Acceptance

The only natural brand, free of alcohol, artificial ingredients and sweeteners, to carry the ADA Seal on its oral care products

Kennebunk, Maine – January 09, 2006

Tom’s of Maine cofounders Tom and Kate Chappell announced that another Tom's of Maine product - NATURAL ANTICAVITY FLUORIDE MOUTHWASH - has earned the American Dental Association’s Seal of Acceptance. The Anticavity Mouthwash joins all three Tom’s of Maine children’s anticavity fluoride toothpastes and five adult anticavity fluoride toothpastes with this recognition. Tom’s of Maine remains the only natural toothpaste to have earned the ADA Seal of Acceptance.

“Our scientists, dentists and other oral care professionals have worked diligently to create another very effective, safe, pleasant-tasting product from plants and minerals that now has earned the highest recognition an oral care product can receive,” said Tom’s of Maine cofounder Tom Chappell. “Earning the ADA Seal of Acceptance on this natural mouthwash is another step toward proving you can make great products that work without using artificial ingredients or alcohol.”

Upon announcement of the Seal the ADA stated, “The American Dental Association’s Council on Scientific Affairs’ acceptance of Tom’s of Maine Natural Anticavity Fluoride Mouthwash is based on its finding that the product is effective in helping to prevent or reduce tooth decay, when used as directed.”

Anticavity Fluoride Mouthwash is highly effective and tastes great, says Dr. Kerry Maguire, Director of Professional Advocacy for Tom’s of Maine. “For patients who are sensitive to alcohol and need additional cavity protection, this is an ideal addition to a comprehensive home-care regimen.” Here’s how it works:

  • Naturally sourced fluoride helps remineralize soft spots on teeth before they turn into full-fledged cavities and strengthens the tooth structure so enamel become more resistant to decay.
  • Alcohol-free, so your mouth doesn’t dry out or get that harsh stinging feeling.
  • Green tea for astringency as well as aloe vera leaf juice and chamomile for a soothing feel.
  • Refreshing flavor from natural peppermint, spearmint and cinnamon makes your mouth feel clean and cool and your breath feel fresh.
  • Does not contain dyes, saccharin, artificial preservatives or flavors or animal ingredients.
  • Clean, sustainable planet – Tom’s of Maine uses recycled and recyclable packaging and soy-based inks.
