By Lori Popkewitz Alper in Healthy Feeling
Over the next few weeks, most children will head back-to-school within their communities. Along with children heading back-to-school, many families will experience a new, unfamiliar back to school routine. Whether you’re working or a stay-at-home parent, this transition can be challenging.
Over the summer months, we’ve all had our fair share of delicious ice cream and endless barbecues. With the back-to-school cleanses and detox programs out there. Adding an exercise component alongside a cleanse is a great way to kick start the back-to-school season.
Why Cleanse
It’s important to remember that the reason for a natural cleanse isn’t to lose weight. Weight loss could be a side effect, but generally the weight returns once the cleanse is completed. Doing a cleanse feels great. Not only does the cleanse clear out your colon, but it helps clear your mind and every other part of your body. A cleanse often includes eliminating many things that made their way into our diets over the summer months including caffeine, sugar, alcohol, gluten, processed food, artificial everything and other possible allergens.
Why Exercise
Exercise helps the body eliminate toxins. In addition to a natural cleanse for 21 days, adding some form of exercise is crucial. With the fall weather kicking in, a walk outside is an easy addition to a daily routine.
Tips to Cleanse and Exercise
- Find a buddy. Cleansing and working out with another person makes the process much more bearable. It’s nice to have someone holding you accountable.
- Make the switch to safer products. Take the time to read labels and switch over to safer cleaning and personal care products.
- Mentally prepare. Cleansing and working out daily becomes a mental challenge. Set your mind to it and stick to it.
- Plan ahead. Plan your meals and workouts ahead of time. Placing a block of time in your calendar makes it much more likely to happen.
- Cook in bulk. Make large meals and save the leftovers to eat throughout the week
- Keep a journal. Throughout the 21 days it’s important to remember your revelations and accomplishments, as well as the tough moments. Take the time to document your experiences to learn from them.
Why 21 Days?
The 21 days is based on the assumption that it takes 21 days to form a habit. There is some controversy over whether or not this is actually true, but there’s no question that 21 days is a good starting point.
